USAGE GUIDELINES FOR EDIBLE LABELS
Before Use – Storing Canna•Badge edible labels
Printed Canna•Badge edible labels should not be refrigerated or placed in the freezer. Keep the badges in their sealed bags to prevent drying out until ready-to use. Also keep out of the light to prevent the fading of colors. The printed badges can be kept for eight weeks. Longer storage may result in the fading of the image.
How to Use
Application:
When ready to use, with dry hands remove the Canna•Badge edible label from the wax paper backing and apply to a freshly frosted baked dessert or to melted white chocolate. White frosting or white chocolate is best as the badge will absorb the color of frosting and cause the image to be less legible.
Apply the Canna•Badge on a flat frosted surface. The area must be flat. Pat to remove any air bubbles and let rest. Depending on the frosting and the humidity of the area, the frosting will set in 30 minutes to one-hour. A Canna•Badge label is made mostly with cornstarch and once set there is no flavor or texture.
Types of frosting:
The frosting should be butter cream, royal icing, cream cheese frosting or any common store bought ready-to-spread frosting. Whipped frosting or frosting made mostly with water is ill advised as the water will cause the badge to disintegrate on contact.
For frozen desserts, to avoid condensation, thaw first in the refrigerator and then let get to room temperature before applying the badge.
Chocolate
Pour white chocolate over the baked dessert and apply the badge while the icing is still wet. Keep flat and let dry.
Tips for using Canna•Badge on cookies and fondant
For cookies and fondant, paint a light coat of a wetter royal frosting, about the consistency of nail polish. Depending on how you want to finish your decorating, you can paint only the area where you will apply the badge. On cookies and if using fondant disks, let dry overnight. The next day the cookie and the fondant disks will be solid and easily packaged.
Tips for using edible labels on brownies and bar recipes
While when an Canna•Badge has set, you can easily slice a dessert, to ensure that the graphic is not harmed or damaged during the cutting process, it is recommended to cut around, but not to slice through, an edible graphic directly. Or, simply decorate the brownie after the portion has been sliced.
Tips for transporting and storing desserts with butter cream or cream cheese frosting
If transporting frosted cakes and cupcakes decorated with a Canna•Badge, once the edible label has set, you may freeze the dessert with the badge. De-thaw in the refrigerator out of the box or with the lid open to prevent condensation during the defrosting process.
